What is RMD?
RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) is the minimum amount you must withdraw annually from tax-advantaged retirement accounts like IRAs, 401(k)s, and 403(b)s once you reach the required age (73 or 75 depending on birth year). Failure to withdraw may result in a 25% penalty.
What age does RMD start?
Under SECURE 2.0 Act: RMD age is 73 for those born 1951-1959, and 75 for those born 1960 or later. If you turned 72 before 2023, your RMD age remains 72. Roth IRAs are exempt from RMD during the owner's lifetime.
