❓ FAQ

How much should I tip in the US?

Standard US restaurant tip is 15-20% of the pre-tax bill. 20% for excellent service, 15% for average, 10% for poor. Buffets 5-10%, takeout pickup usually no tip but 10% is appreciated.

Should I tip on pre-tax or post-tax?

US custom is to tip on the pre-tax amount. Our calculator defaults to pre-tax but can switch to post-tax. The difference is typically 8-10% depending on local tax rates.

What about tipping in other countries?

Most European countries include service (marked service compris), extra 5-10% is fine. Japan and Korea have no tipping culture. Australia/New Zealand tip not required but 10% for satisfaction. China has no tipping custom.

How does split bill with tip work?

Our calculator supports split bill: enter total, number of people, and tip percentage to get each person's share including evenly split tip. Optionally account for different drink or item costs per person.

Should I tip for delivery?

Delivery drivers: 10-15% or $2-5 flat. Pickup takeout: usually no tip needed, but 10% on large orders ($50+) is courteous. Fast food: no tip.
