FAQ

What's the difference between DB and DC?

DB (Defined Benefit): employer guarantees a fixed benefit = final salary ร— years ร— benefit rate. DC (Defined Contribution): you and employer contribute to an investment account, retirement income depends on accumulated balance.

What is the benefit rate?

The benefit rate is the percentage of your final salary earned per year of service in a DB plan. Typically 1.5-2%. Working 30 years at 1.5% = pension of 45% of your final salary.

How does employer match work in DC?

Employers typically match up to a cap. E.g., 100% match up to 6% means if you contribute 6%, employer adds 6%. If you contribute 8%, employer still only matches 6%.

How does life expectancy affect my pension?

In DC plans, your account balance is distributed over your expected retirement years (life expectancy - retirement age). A longer life expectancy means smaller monthly payments.
