Frequently Asked Questions

What is a music scale?

A music scale is a set of notes arranged by specific interval patterns, forming the foundation for melodies and harmonies. For example, the C Major scale contains C-D-E-F-G-A-B. Different scale types create different musical moods and colors.

What scale types are supported?

Supports 20+ scale types: Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Pentatonic (Major/Minor), Blues, Whole Tone, Diminished, Chromatic, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian, and more.

Can I listen to the scales?

Yes! Click any note on the piano keyboard to hear its pitch. The tool uses Web Audio API to synthesize sounds in your browser - no external plugins or audio files needed.

What's the difference between C4 and C5?

C4 is middle C (approximately 261.6 Hz). C5 is one octave higher (approximately 523.3 Hz). On a piano keyboard, every 12 semitones (one octave) doubles the frequency.

Is this suitable for music beginners?

Very much so. The interface is intuitive - just select a key and scale type to see highlighted notes on the piano keyboard. Beginners can quickly understand scale structures through visual and audio feedback.

Can I generate fingering charts?

Currently the tool provides piano keyboard scale visualization. For other instruments like guitar, you can derive fingerings from the scale notes. Future versions may add instrument-specific fingerings.
