1. Set the tempo. Drag the slider or tap a preset to reach your target BPM. The range is 30-300 BPM, covering everything from Largo to Presto. You can also use the β/β keys to speed up and β/β to slow down.
2. Pick a time signature. 2/4 suits marches, 3/4 is the foundation of the waltz, 4/4 is the most common choice and 6/8 appears frequently in pop and rock. The number of beat dots updates when you switch.
3. Toggle the accent. With "Accent beat 1" enabled, the first beat of every bar plays at a higher pitch and shows in red so you can hear where the bar begins. Turn it off to make every beat identical.
4. Choose a sound. Woodblock is crisp, electronic is precise and tick is short and clean. Pick whichever suits your instrument and room.
5. Start practicing. Click Start or press Space; the clicks begin, the pendulum swings and the current beat lights up. Click again or press Space to stop.

What BPM range does this online metronome support?
It supports 30 to 300 BPM, covering the full range from Largo to Presto. You can change the tempo with the slider, the preset buttons, or the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Where does the metronome sound come from?
Every click is synthesized in your browser with the Web Audio API. No audio files are downloaded and no external libraries are used. The audio context is created on your first click so it complies with browser autoplay policies.
Which time signatures and sounds are available?
You can choose 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 or 6/8, plus woodblock, electronic and tick sounds. The first-beat accent can be toggled on or off; when enabled, beat 1 uses a higher pitch and lights up in red.
Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes. Press Space to start or stop the metronome, the Up or Right arrow to speed up and the Down or Left arrow to slow down. Hold Shift with an arrow key to change the tempo by 5 BPM at a time.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The layout is responsive and works on mobile and tablet screens. Headphones are recommended for the clearest audible feedback during practice.
Does a browser metronome drain the battery?
No. It only generates simple waveforms with the Web Audio API, so CPU usage is very low and the effect on battery life is negligible.
Can I save my favourite tempo?
Yes. Add URL parameters such as https://free-toolbase.com/en/metronome/?bpm=100&beats=4 and bookmark the page to return to that setup instantly.
