Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between L/100km and MPG?
L/100km measures liters of fuel consumed per 100 kilometers — a lower number means better fuel economy. MPG measures miles driven per gallon of fuel — a higher number means better fuel economy. They are inversely related: MPG = 235.215 / L/100km. So a lower L/100km corresponds to a higher MPG, both indicating greater efficiency.
How to convert L/100km to MPG?
Use the formulas: MPG(US) = 235.215 / L/100km, MPG(UK) = 282.481 / L/100km. For example, 8 L/100km ≈ 29.4 MPG(US) ≈ 35.3 MPG(UK). Simply divide 235.215 or 282.481 by the L/100km value to get the corresponding MPG.
Are US and UK MPG the same?
No. A US gallon equals 3.785 liters, while a UK (Imperial) gallon equals 4.546 liters. Since the Imperial gallon is larger, the same amount of fuel takes you further, making MPG(UK) about 20% higher than MPG(US). Conversion: MPG(UK) = MPG(US) × 1.2009.
What is km/L?
km/L measures kilometers driven per liter of fuel — a common metric in Asian countries. It's the inverse of L/100km: km/L = 100 / L/100km. Higher values mean better fuel economy. For example, 8 L/100km = 12.5 km/L.
