The Framingham Risk Score comes from the decades-long Framingham Heart Study in Massachusetts. It was the first widely-used cardiovascular risk prediction tool, estimating 10-year probability of coronary heart disease (CHD) events like myocardial infarction and CHD death.

Framingham vs ASCVD — what's the difference?

Framingham estimates CHD risk only, while ASCVD estimates broader risk including CHD + stroke. Framingham was developed earlier; ASCVD is the newer model. Both remain widely used.
