π Calculation Breakdown
π Fence Types Explained
π Privacy Fence: Uses wide boards (typically 150mm) placed tightly together with no gaps, standing 1.8m or taller. Completely blocks the view β ideal for backyards and pool enclosures.
π‘ Picket Fence: Uses narrower pickets (typically 90mm) with 50-70mm gaps between them, usually around 1.2m tall. Offers both aesthetics and airflow β great for front yards.
βοΈ Chain-link Fence: Uses metal mesh sold by the roll (15-25m per roll). The most economical option, requires tension bars and ties. Best for large areas and industrial sites.
π‘ Installation Tips
- Hole depth: Should be 1/3 to 1/2 of the post's above-ground height, and must extend below the local frost line
- Post spacing: Keep it under 2.4m to prevent rails from sagging over time
- Concrete: Each post needs roughly 1-2 bags of 40kg concrete, depending on hole dimensions
- Buy 10% extra: Always order 10% more material for waste and cutting errors
- Underground utilities: Always call your local utility company before digging
- Corners & gates: Each corner and gate opening needs additional posts
π How to Use
- Select your fence type, then enter the total fence length and post spacing β materials are calculated automatically
- Privacy and picket fences require board width and gap inputs; chain-link fences do not
- Enter material unit prices to get an automatic cost estimate
- We recommend ordering 10% extra material beyond the calculated amounts
- All calculations run locally in your browser β no data is uploaded
