PPI = √(horizontal pixels² + vertical pixels²) ÷ screen diagonal size (inches). For example, a 5.5-inch screen at 1920×1080, PPI = √(1920² + 1080²) ÷ 5.5 ≈ 401 PPI.
It depends on viewing distance. At 25cm, the human eye limit is about 720 PPI; at 30cm (normal phone distance) about 600 PPI; at 50cm (desktop distance) about 350 PPI. Apple's "Retina" standard is 326 PPI at 25cm.
Standard document printing: 150-200 DPI; photo printing: 300+ DPI; high-quality art printing: 600-1200 DPI. Print DPI and screen PPI are different concepts.
