The Breath Holding Timer is a free online tool to help you test and improve your apnea ability. It's very easy to use:
Before clicking start, take 3-5 deep breaths to fully oxygenate your body. Relax your mind and body. Sit comfortably or lie down in a safe environment.
After your final deep inhale, click the "Start Holding" button. The timer begins immediately. Keep holding your breath โ do not breathe.
When you feel the urge to breathe, click "Stop". The system displays your breath-hold time, rating, and history records.
Never practice extreme breath-holding in water or without supervision. If you feel dizzy or unwell, stop immediately. This tool is for recreational reference only and does not replace professional medical advice.
The average person can hold their breath for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Trained swimmers and freedivers can hold for 2-5 minutes, with the world record exceeding 11 minutes. Your time will improve with consistent practice.
Moderate breath-holding practice is safe for healthy individuals and may even benefit lung capacity and respiratory control. However, people with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or who are pregnant should avoid this exercise or consult a doctor first.
All data (including best records and history) is stored in your browser's local storage. Your records will not be lost unless you clear browser data. No data is ever uploaded to any server.
We strongly advise against attempting extreme breath-holding (over 4 minutes) alone. Oxygen deprivation can cause loss of consciousness, which is especially dangerous in water. Always practice in a safe environment with another person present.
