WPA2 is the most widely used WiFi security protocol using AES encryption. WPA3, introduced in 2018, replaces PSK with SAE (Simultaneous Authentication of Equals) to prevent offline dictionary attacks. WEP has been proven insecure and should never be used. Password strength depends on length and charset complexity: an 8-digit numeric password can be cracked in hours, while a 16-character mixed password would take billions of years.
WPA requires minimum 8 characters, WPA2 also requires 8+ but recommends 12+, and WPA3 requires minimum 8 with SAE authentication for better security. WPA3 provides stronger encryption and brute-force protection.
WPA/WPA2 minimum is 8 characters, but we recommend at least 12-16. A 16-character password with mixed case, numbers, and special characters would take millions of years to brute force.
In your router admin panel, navigate to Wireless Security settings and enter the password in the WPA/WPA2/WPA3 key field. The location varies by router manufacturer.
Some routers have limited special character support, and certain devices may fail to connect. We recommend using ASCII printable characters and avoiding non-standard Unicode.
Recommended methods: 1) Use WPS button pairing; 2) Generate a QR code for guests to scan; 3) Write it on a router label; 4) Save in a password manager. This tool supports WiFi QR code generation.
We recommend changing every 3-6 months, especially after: discovering unknown devices, moving, or guests leaving. WPA3's SAE protocol reduces the need, but it's still a good security practice.
