Question 1

How does the PNG to ICO converter work?

Accepted Answer

This tool draws your PNG image onto a Canvas element in your browser, then re-encodes it into the ICO format. All processing happens locally on your device — your image is never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy.

Question 2

What ICO sizes are supported?

Accepted Answer

Six standard ICO sizes are supported: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 128x128, and 256x256 pixels. You can export a single size or combine multiple sizes into one ICO file. For website favicons, we recommend at least 16x16 and 32x32.

Question 3

Does the ICO preserve transparent backgrounds?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The converter fully preserves the alpha channel (transparency) from your PNG. The resulting ICO file supports transparent backgrounds, making it perfect for website favicons.

Question 4

Can I create a multi-size ICO file?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! You can select multiple resolutions to include in a single ICO file. A multi-size ICO contains icons from 16x16 to 256x256, and browsers will automatically pick the most appropriate size.

Question 5

What size PNG should I upload?

Accepted Answer

We recommend uploading a square PNG image with a resolution of at least 256x256 pixels for the best results. The tool supports PNGs up to 5000x5000 pixels and automatically scales them proportionally.
