FAQ

What is image metadata and does removing it affect image quality?

Image metadata (EXIF) is hidden information stored inside image files, including capture date, camera model, GPS coordinates, aperture/shutter settings, and more. Removing metadata does NOT affect the visual quality of the image — it only strips the hidden data.

Can GPS data be recovered after removal?

No. This tool re-encodes the image into a brand new file, completely discarding all original metadata. The process is irreversible — the cleaned image contains no EXIF/GPS data whatsoever, as if it were a freshly created image.

What image formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF are supported. Note that PNG and WebP don't natively store EXIF data, but some software may embed auxiliary metadata which will also be stripped by this tool.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

Absolutely not. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your images are processed in memory and never sent to any server. You can test by disconnecting from the internet after loading the page — the tool still works perfectly.

How many images can I process at once?

One image at a time. After processing completes, you can download the clean version and immediately process another image. There is no limit on the number of images you can process.

Technical Notes

This tool uses the Canvas API to redraw and export the image as a brand new file. All EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and other metadata stored in the original file are naturally discarded during the re-encoding process. This is a thorough and irreversible method of metadata removal. Your data never leaves your device.
